How Mizuno Name their Suits
It is always exciting when new tech suits release. Especially when it is from Japanese powerhouse Mizuno. You only have to watch a couple of my YT videos to see I am obsessed with these suits. This has been the case since I started TheSwimsuitGuy in 2018.
Back then their flagship range was GX Sonic III. Since then we have had the IVs, Vs, VIs and now instead of the VIIs we have Royal.

Now from the second generation of GX Sonic in 2014 all the way up until the V generation in 2020, the naming scheme was simple. There would always be the following:
ST = Sprinter
MR = Multi Racer
The naming was simple and so was the intended audience. But everything changed in 2023 with the GX Sonic VI....
Now there were 3 models all with whacky names....
NV = Noble Velocity = Sprinters = New ST
CR = Compressive Release = Middle Distance = Unlike Old Models
ET = Emotional Technique = Distance = New AG
The new generation
So in December 2025 the new Mizuno 7th Generation has released and just like last generation there are three models. Yet the names have changed completley just to confuse everyone. So now we have:
PW = Power = New NV = Sprinters = New ST
MT = Motion = New CR = Middle Distance
SF = Soft = New ET = Distance
I hope you are following.
Power type
The PW looks to be a minimal refinement of the NV, changing some seam placements and adding some ribtex. All models also have a new waistband.
Truthly there are not major differences between the VI ST, V ST, VI NV and Royal PW. Here is the ratings Mizuno give this suit.

This is going to be for 50 specialists or swimmers only racing 50s and 100s.
Motion Type
This is the second generation of CR and unlike anything that come before it. It is only the second suit to be made completley of ribtex. It seems to have slightly different taping and more dual layering.
Here is what Mizuno say.

This will be for swimmers who race anything up to 200... maybe even 400.
Soft Type
I have heard the soft suits are becoming more and more the rage in Japan so there is a big demand for this model. It follows up from the ET which was very similar to the Neo AG model that released in 2021.
Here are Mizuno's specs.

Weirdly the CR is more lightweight and this is the only model without perfect water repellency.
I would say this is for swimmer who prefer 400 and up.
I should clarify I have not tried any of these yet but have them all on order for full reviews. Regardless I can see that they have small refinements over the last generation.
How to buy Mizuno GX Sonic ROyal Suits
You can now purchase these new Mizuno's in Japan only. There is also a very high demand, especially for the PW model. I recommend you use Buyee to purchase them If you use this link, you save 10% off your first order (you must activate the coupon in "coupons" before purchasing).
Unfortunately there are only small sizes available of the PW and MT from Mizuno direct but most sizes of SF are available.
The MT can be pre ordered here for delivery at the end of January 2026.
The PW is just going to be a waiting game for either a restock or a new color launch....
These suits are extremley cheap and with my coupon come to about £140 before shipping (abput £20 extra).
A suit is just one way to go faster
Remember, a suit doesn't make a swimmer, but correct training can. If you are swimming alone and need a program, then I have a range of options for you:
50 Specialists = RAW SPEED
100 Swimmers (who race 50-200) = Shooting Speed
Personalised Membership = Personal Best Membership
